A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We received reports of a loss of water supply in the Kirk Hammerton area in the early hours of this morning and discovered this was being caused by a burst to a water main in the area.

“Water supply should now be restored but we have put two-way traffic lights in place to allow us to repair the pipe affected. We’d like to apologise to commuters affected by this work and ask them to bear with us while it is completed.”
