Investigations will continue today into the cause of the sinkhole and one of Harrogate Borough Council's structural engineers will review the site again today.

Essential repair work at the site is set to start following an assesment of the ground by the British Geological Survey.

Additional fencing will be erected today at the rear of the properties affected by the sinkhole to ensure the safety of the public.

Families have been forced to find alternative accommodation since the sinkhole appeared and have been warned it could take months before they're able to return to their homes.

Ripon is prone to sinkhole activity with this incident close to where another sinkhole opened up beneath a 100-year-old building in Magdalen's Close in 2014.
