Gas works in Killinghall which have been causing traffic delays for months are set to come to an end.

Northern Gas Networks are expecting the work on the A61 Ripon Road, which has involved upgrading ageing metallic gas mains, to be completed this week.

The reduction to one lane, near the Three Horseshoes pub, has seen traffic tailbacks as far as the Nidd Lane turn-off during the morning rush hour, causing misery for hundreds of drivers heading into Harrogate.

The project is part of the company’s ongoing development of infrastructure across the north of England and has involved replacing around 3km of existing gas main with more durable plastic pipes.

Robert Hope, Construction Services Area Manager from Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding throughout this project and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
