North Yorkshire Police said the accident took place on the eastbound carriageway near Tadcaster, just past the River Wharfe.

A full road closure was then put in place on the road at the A1M Bramham until it was reopened at 1.22pm.

The road closure caused large tailbacks as police attempt to clear stationary traffic.
