Top marks for Harrogate school

An independent Harrogate school was named '˜outstanding' by the education watchdog after inspectors found staff aimed for its teaching to be '˜good as it can be'.

Brackenfield School on Duchy Road which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year was given the highest rating by Ofsted.

Principal Anthony Comerford said: “Brackenfield has always had very good, positive Ofsted inspections with plenty of outstanding areas but it really is the icing on the cake to have achieved a well-deserved outstanding judgement in all areas in the new inspection framework.

“I would like to thank all of the teachers and families who make Brackenfield such a wonderful place to learn.”

Headteacher Patricia Sowa said it was “a very proud moment when the enthusiasm, skills and dedication of the teachers, early years specialists and team of assistants was recognised by the inspection team”.

She said: “Part of our success is that we are never satisfied and are always seeking ways to make things even better for our pupils, staff and families in all aspects of their life and learning environment at Brackenfield.

“That said, I cannot think of a better 40th birthday present for the school!”

Ofsted’s report read: “Teachers ensure that pupils have the opportunity to excel in a range of academic, creative and sporting activities.

“All staff work extremely well as a team to ensure that standards remain high and that improvement is continuous.”
