The St Robert’s Beer Festival in Pannal will offer a Prosecco bar alongside a choice of ten beers at the popular festival.

Now in its fifth year the beer festival which raises money for the church is aiming to ‘bring the community together’ said the aptly named Church Vicar, The Reverend John Smith.

“It is great to have everyone together enjoying a drink somewhere they might not expect to be drinking,” he said.

“This is the first year we’re offering Prosecco, I think it will be popular and go down well especially with people who are coming as a couple.

“The place has a real buzz about it, it is a great event. I think I will stick with the beers, I have got to sample them of course.”

The Italian sparkling wine has become the drink of choice in recent years, and overtook Champagne as Britain’s most popular fizz in August. Sales of the sparkly stuff increased by 72 per cent in the last year, sparking fears of a global shortage in May.
