Timmy Mallett, artist, comes to Smart Gallery in Harrogate

Zany TV presenter and entertainer Timmy Mallett may have made his name in the 1980s with his colourful glasses, loud shirts and louder catchphrases but he’s now renowned for his art - and he’s coming to Harrogate tonight, Friday.

Forget his Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini hit, a collection of his latest Impressionist paintings will be on show at Smart Gallery in Pannal.

The exhibition is proof that, despite his light-hearted approach to life, Timmy does have a serious side.

Timmy, who is opening the show himself tomorrow evening, discovered his love of painting when he studied History of Art as part of his degree at Warwick University.

His appearance is a massive coup for Smart Gallery at Crimple Hall off Leeds Road which only opened recently.

Gallery owner Shelley Frieze said: “We are delighted to welcome Timmy to the gallery. He is a famously colourful character and we are looking forward to introducing him to collectors – it’s not every day you get to chat about artwork with a household name.”

Working daily in his studio, Timmy’s paintings are as colourful as some of his shorts.

He has become a surprisingly popular artist in oils and acrylics, taking his inspiration from his many travels across the UK.

He is inspired by sunshine and shadow, the changing seasons and the magic of the moment, and his paintings glow with warmth, light and colour.

Timmy’s exhibition will feature a stunning collection of original paintings and a collection of limited editions with an eclectic range of subjects from cityscapes to poppy fields and seascapes.

His aim is to identify those most magical everyday moments and capture them on canvas before they are gone and forgotten and in doing so he creates some truly memorable artworks.

An Evening With Timmy Mallett runs from 6pm-8pm, tomorrow, Friday.
