Three more days of traffic misery for Leeds to Harrogate commuters

The roadworks that caused traffic chaos for thousands of commuters travelling from Leeds to Harrogate this morning are set to continue until Friday, April 15.

Yorkshire Water has confirmed they have installed the temporary traffic lights on Leeds Road, in Pannal, which will remain there until Friday.

The company said that the lights have been put in place in order for Yorkshire Water to connect a new development to their water distribution system.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said they 'apologised to anyone affected' by the work also apologised for any traffic delays.

An engineer from North Yorkshire County Council's highways agency visited the site this morning to check 'traffic management procedures' were being followed correctly.

The engineer asked Yorkshire Water to operate the lights manually at peak periods to 'monitor active traffic queues and time phasing' to minimise wait times.

This will not be the last motorists see of roadworks at Pannal as work is due to start on April 25 on constructing a new roundabout on the A61.

The new roundabout will be built on the A61 at Pannal, to the south of Spacey Houses, to provide access to the a new dementia care facility at the former Dunlopillo industrial site.

Motorists travelling from Leeds to Harrogate could be set for 26 weeks of roadworks but the majority of the work is due to be constructed off lined.

However, traffic is believed to be interrupted for three weeks in September with the final phase of work involving traffic light control working and possibly an overnight closure.
