Residents and staff at Thistle Hill care home in Knaresborough will host an Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June.

This year the venue will be holding a poppy picnic in the home’s gardens between 10am and 5pm.

Residents will be joined by both the mayor and soldiers from the British Army who will be visiting as special friends to the home.

The head chef at the home will be serving BBQ favourites for residents and guests, and the team at the home will be selling a selection of home-made sweet treats, with all proceeds donated to the Army benevolent fund.

Martin Askew, a resident at Thistle Hill, said: “It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.”

Mandy Scott, general manager said: “We have a number of residents with personal ties to the military, and we look forward to making 30 June a special day for them and all our residents, as well as using the day to think about lives that have been lost, and people still putting their lives on the line.”
