Tadfaster bus service to provide speedy links

Following the collapse of Tadcaster Bridge, North Yorkshire County Council and Yorkshire Coastliner have announced Tadfaster will start on Monday February 15 and will take just 20 minutes into York.

The new bus route will run alongside the existing Coastliner service, which sees no change and continues to connect the town with Leeds, York and the east coast.

Alex Hornby, Chief Executive at Transdev, the company behind Yorkshire Coastliner, said: “We know it’s been really tough for residents and our customers in Tadcaster, and we wanted to design a service more specific to their needs.

“Research shows that York remains the most popular destination from the town - and so the new Tadfaster route has been carefully planned to speed up journeys into York city centre, whilst restoring bus services from the bus station and the east side of Tadcaster.”

“In addition to the new service, next Saturday, 20 February, we are keen to welcome as many Tadcaster residents on board by offering a one day only £1 single fare for any bus journey to or from Tadcaster on Tadfaster or Coastliner.”

“We hope this will encourage residents to make the most of these big improvements; as well as encouraging more people to visit the town.

“We really want to do our bit to help and support all in Tadcaster during this time of recovery. More and better bus services will improve the town’s economy and wellbeing.”

Coun Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for public Transport, said: “This is a really good example of how the council is working closely with bus operators to improve commercial services throughout the county.”

The new Tadfaster service runs hourly during the day, and will connect Tadcaster directly with York, non-stop along the A64, then picking up as usual between York College and the city centre.

All journeys for any customers boarding or leaving the bus at any stops within Tadcaster and Woodlands, can enjoy the £1 fare offer to or from any other location on the Coastliner and Tadfaster network. The normal range of bus passes will be accepted as usual.
