Ugly scenes broke out at the Sandy Lane stadium during and after the top-of-the-table clash, which Tadcaster won 2-1.

Away supporters were given a police escort out of the ground and Tigers boss said it was “really poor” and “sad.”

No arrests were made but Nottinghamshire Police are now appealing for witnesses.

A statement from Tadcaster said: “We have clear video footage of the after-match incident which shows a high number of Worksop Town fans congregating, abusing and attacking the Tadcaster fans. We also have clear photograph images of those involved.

“We are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police and are confident that the perpetrators will be dealt with accordingly by both the police and Worksop Town.

“We are hugely disappointed that for the second season running we have been subject to violent behaviour.

“We recognise the efforts of the Worksop Town chairman and staff who do not tolerate or condone the actions of those bringing the club into disrepute.

“We would like to thank those from within Worksop Town, the players and the stewards for their intervention into what could have been a much more serious occurrence.

“On a brighter note, the game of football and the atmosphere that accompanied it was nothing short of sensational, 879 passionate football fans in attendance on a cold Wednesday night is a massive credit to both clubs.”
