Kids of the Castle Youth Club which launched in September has been declared a huge success.

Based in Spofforth Long Memorial Hall it is open to children from Spofforth and surrounding villages aged from 8 to 16.

“We didn’t know if there was a need or a desire to open a youth club but we recognised that there was a gap in provision for activities for the older children based in the villages,” said Emma Booth, Chair and one of the founding members of the club.

The club, run by volunteers on Friday nights in term time, currently has 100 members with an average of 30 children attending each week.

Organisers provide structured activities for the younger age group (8-13) and less formal for the older group (11-16).

“We’ve covered many topics,” said Eleanor Levine, Programme Organiser,

These have included a visit from leading graffiti artist Tredski, Mexican Day of the Dead theme and sports and craft activities.

“I think Youth Club’s great and I love going every week,” said youth club member Alice Rowbottom.

This term there are plans on a Chinese theme and science and technology.
