A STARBECK teenager has been selected from thousands of applicants to carry the Olympic torch, which is coming to Harrogate and Knaresborough on June 19 next year.
Scott Stockdale, a Year 11 pupil who attends King James’s School in Knaresborough, landed the role as a result of his voluntary work, both at and outside the school.
The 16-year-old was nominated by PE teacher Ryan Bradshaw and Harrogate Sports Partnership development manager Damien Smith.
Mr Smith said: “Scott deserves to be recognised as an outstanding young person and his selection as an Olympic torchbearer is fitting recognition.”
Mr Bradshaw said: “For a King James’s student to be part of the Olympic legacy is incredible. The whole school is extremely proud of Scott.”
Scott added: “It is an honour to be an Olympic Torchbearer. I’m really looking forward to it.”
The Olympic Torch will be carried around 1,000 towns and cities in Britain on a 70-day tour of the country.
