St John Fisher football stars shine as squad reaches national final

As the season end approaches the school has announced that the Year seven squad has reached the Final of the National School Girls Football competition.

In the semi-final they defeated The Thomas Telford High School, Shropshire, convincingly, 5-0. The Final will take place at the Reading FC Madejski Stadium at the end of May. Acting

Headteacher Jo Langstaff, said:”Stunning achievement I am aware that qualification for a National Final is a very rare achievement for any local school”.

At the same time Year seven, Year eight, Year 10 and Year 11 girls have all reached the County Cup Finals.

Coach Carey Huegett, Leeds United and former Harrogate Town star, said: “It is the culmination of years of hard graft to embed girls’ football into the school’s culture. SJF boys have an enviable reputation built up over many years.

“The girls have now joined them!”
