Damp weather failed to deter visitors who came to celebrate the 21st year of the popular annual show, which sees motorcycles and cars from all eras in one place.

This year saw more than 900 entries of classic cars into the show, which go head to head for a number of different trophies that are up for grabs.

Phill Greetham, Ripon Classic Car Gathering Chairman said: “We are the victims of our own success, we are very easy going, the race course is a fantastic venue for the event, people love coming. We don’t advertise to any great extent but if it is a nice day we are absolutely swamped.”

But despite this year’s bad weather, Phill said: “We still got a really good turn out, we had a lot of late entries, about 200 of those and had about 600 entries that were booked in so we filled the field. The atmosphere was great, people came a lot earlier and we didn’t get any negative feedback at all.”

Phill said this year the oldest car the show saw was a Model T Ford called Harriet.

The event was started 22 years ago by Lenny Wadsworth, who was passionate about classic cars and since his passing, the committee has taken over the running of the show.

Mr Greetham said: “All of us on the committee are car nuts. Most of us are retired and enthusiastic about classic cars or classic car owners. Most of the people on the committee have some form of classic car.”

The non-profit committee raises money for charity from the event each year, and this year will be giving away £14,600 - the most it has ever given.

The money will go in part to children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters and the remaining to 10 good local causes.
