Soldier Shavaughn in multi-national training exercise

Rather than helping her regiment as it planned to move from Germany to Dishforth, 23-year-old Lance Corporal Shavaughn Armitage from Harrogate instead participated in a multi-national exercise near Zagan, Poland.

For Shavaughn serving with 6th Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps the exercise presented an opportunity to work with other nations: “We were working with the Spanish soldiers which was a great experience and something different – although there were some language difficulties to overcome at times we got the job done.

“Our main tasks were to provide fuel, water and whatever the troops needed on the ground by way of supplies. For me, this involved driving the close support tanker providing the fuel where it was needed as well as maintaining the tanker.”

Shavaughn, whose mum Elsie lives in Brighouse, added: “I love the variety and challenge that I get from being in the Army. The young soldiers who have recently joined the regiment will not have experienced exercise conditions like this before so its always an accomplishment when you can come together and get the job done expected of you.”

In her six-and-a-half years in the Army Shavaughan has also served in Kenya, Canada and skied for her Corps in Austria but will miss Germany: “While I am looking forward to being

back in Yorkshire near friends and family Germany is a fantastic place to live and travel

around, there is so much to see and experience I shall definitely miss it.”
