Small school's sporting success

Ripley Endowed Primary is celebrating sporting success over the school year.

The 85-pupil school, on Main Street in the village, has won places at many area finals of the Harrogate Sports Partnership, competing against much bigger schools.

They finished second in the area finals of the Year 3/4 Tri Golf and will be representing Harrogate at this year’s North Yorkshire School Games this month. The Year 5/6 Hockey, Tag Rugby and Cricket teams all won the Harrogate Partnership finals, with the Tag Rugby team winning for the second consecutive year.

PE Leader, Mrs Halford, explained that the secret of the school’s success is the support from all staff and parents.

“It comes from the pupils’ attitude to PE lessons with self-belief, hard work and encouragement for one another to do their best,” she said.

“This sets the foundations for a great team spirit to grow. All pupils have access to a wide range of sporting activities from swimming to tag rugby, which gives pupils a chance to shine at their chosen sport.”
