Stunning sunshine and a chance for the town’s dogs to take centre stage drew crowds to the Harrogate Dog Show.

Dogs of all ages accompanied their owners to the charity show, organised by PoochesGalore owner Kim Metcalfe and Verity Watts, of Shampooches.

Money raised at the event will be split between charities Brathay Trust and Dogs Trust.

With 13 classes contested, as well as the overall Best in Show category, the crowds were kept entertained throughout the day.

Stall holders and agility demonstrations were present throughout the event, which was held at Harrogate Rugby Club’s Claro Road ground.

Verity said: “Harrogate is the second most dog friendly town in England, yet we didn’t have a charity dog show event, so that is where the idea came from.

“It has been brilliant, hopefully we managed to target as many people as possible.”

Kim said: “All the work everyone has put in on the stalls, and people bringing their dogs in, and dressing them up, I don’t think we could have imagined it was going to be this spectacular.

“We have had lots of volunteers, and we definitely couldn’t have done it without them.

“A lot of people have already mentioned next year, so in a couple of months we will be looking at it.”

The new Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Michael Newby, opened the show.

He said: “What a fantastic day. A lot of hard work has gone into it, I congratulate Kim and Verity for what they have done.”

Consort Clive Kirkham said: “It has been great to see so many people supporting the event.

“It really could take off. I had a dog from Dogs Trust, I totally support the work they do with rescued dogs, they really look after them.”
