Veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan will stop off in Harrogate as part of a series on local food shown on our TV screens this week.
Joined by London cab driver Mason McQueen, Sir Terry shot scenes for Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip at The Old Swan, where they sampled produce cooked by the hotel’s head chef Daniel Sadler, and the episode featuring the hotel will air on Tuesday night (September 22) at 6pm.
The 20-part series attempts to retrace writer Samuel Chamberlain’s footsteps around the country based on his book British Bouquet: An Epicurean Tour of Britain, and focuses on old-fashioned dining experiences.
The hotel was selected for a stop-off as crime author Agatha Christie was found staying there after famously going missing in 1926, and the pair tried to find a dish from the Christie era. Daniel prepared Harrogate blue cheese beignets, rhubarb jan and a rocket and pine nut salad in The Old Swan’s kitchens, and served the meal in the Victorian Wedgwood restaurant.
