School's Fair Trade group boosts funds

Goldsborough Primary School's very active Fairtrade Committee has been treated to an audience with Vicky Wild, the manager of Harrogate Fairtrade Shop.

The shop, housed in the porch of St Peter’s church, has an array of Christmas decorations and gifts.

And six industrious Year 5 children were able to chose the products they felt would sell well at the school Christmas Fair which is to be held on Friday December 2 between 5-7pm.

They then presented Vicky with a cheque for £100 - profits from the school’s weekly Fairtrade tuck shop.

The children and adults were rewarded for their hard work with a Fairtrade hot chocolate at Waterstone’s Cafe, where the children were able to interview Vicky about her role.

Vicky said: “I enjoyed it a great deal. It was fabulous to see the children’s commitment to the concept of Fairtrade.”

The Harrogate Fairtrade shop is open Monday to Saturday and is full of gifts for Christmas.

Communities struggling with poverty will receive much needed support through the sale of the gifts.
