Now it is time to announce the eagerly anticipated results.

Out of 77 salons across the district, from Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresborough, Nidderdale and Wetherby, there is only one winner and a runner-up.

Taking home the trophy for Salon of the Year 2014 and all of the acclaim such a title brings is Gloss Hairdressing in Knaresborough. TJ’s in Ripon is the runner-up.

Chosen for their special ability to remain a cut above the rest, maintain loyal customers, and help every client look good, the team at Gloss may well provide the best blow-dries, the perfect haircuts, and the most glamorous nails in the district.

This, at least, is the view of the voters who responded in their thousands to pick their favourite place for beautification and relaxation.

Owner of Gloss, Charlotte Boyle, told the Harrogate Advertiser Series just what it means to win.

“It is nice to know we have got local people out there that like us and I know a lot of our clients are loyal, so it just confirms that,” she said.

“It feels so nice because I know there were some really big salons in the competition as well. Even though we’re not a big salon we have a lot of loyal customers.

Charlotte also said the opportunity the competition offered to shine a light on some of the work done at the salon, as well as the relationships fostered between employees and clients, was one she had to take.

She said: “We always like to get involved with things going on in the community and this was a good opportunity.”

There was a similar message from the runner-up - TJ’s in Ripon.

“The competition has definitely been a great opportunity to showcase what we do,” said owner Joanne Savill.

“To come up against the big salons that are out there and come runner-up is massive. We are not a particularly small salon and we are very busy but to have come second is just absolutely brilliant.”

After being added to the final shortlist once votes were counted, TJ’s is the salon in second place, but that is something Joanne is incredibly proud of.

She said: “It was my clients who put me forward for Salon of the Year, I didn’t know anything about it.

“It means everything, to be honest with you. All of my hard work that I have put in over the years and the clients have been absolutely phenomenal.

“We have all been on journeys together and it means so much because of that.”
