Friends and family of Alex Emmett, a promising young sportsman who died in February, have completed the Great Yorkshire Run in his memory.

The runners, including Harrogate Grammar School pupils and members of Follifoot Cricket Club, have raised £1,745 for Diabetes UK by tackling the 10k run.

Ryan Smith, from the 30-strong group, said: “The response has been fantastic.

“Speaking with Alex’s brother, Jack, I know that he and his family are proud and touched by the efforts of everyone involved, from the runners to the sponsors.

“We have chosen Diabetes UK because Alex was diabetic and we feel this is a fitting tribute to a fantastic person who loved sport and the company of his friends.

“Jack has done a superb job of organising this, as have the runners for getting sponsored.

“A lot of dedication, commitment and perseverance has gone into this run – qualities that Alex possessed in abundance.”
