The Carers’ Resource charity in Harrogate has been presented with a cheque for £4,500 by the Harrogate Brigantes’ Rotary Club.
Pictured handing over the cheque is Mike Hammond, left, president of Harrogate Brigantes, with Helen Prince, head of young carers and families at The Carers’ Resource, while Laura Winfield, who runs the BUDZ youth club, and Rotarian Chris Graville look on.
The money was raised at the club’s annual golf tournament and is sufficient to run The Carers’ Resource’s BUDZ club for a whole year.
BUDZ is a youth club for young carers between the ages of seven and 11. It gives young people who spend most of their time caring for relatives a much-needed opportunity to meet other young carers who are facing similar issues. It also allows them to take a break from caring, to have some fun, and to seek help and advice if needed. Current BUDZ members include two sisters aged seven and eight, who are the sole carers of their father who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and agoraphobia, and a nine-year-old boy who looks after his blind mother. Anne Wells, events and fundraising coordinator of The Carers’ Resource, said: “We are so grateful to Harrogate Brigantes for their continuing support which is really making a difference to the lives of local children. We know that BUDZ makes a big difference to the lives of our young carers and to have sufficient funding for another year of operation is a wonderful boost to us all.”
BUDZ club sessions are held at The Carers’ Resource on 11 North Park Road, Harrogate, on every other Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm in term time only.
A picnic style dinner is provided.
