Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened yesterday, Wednesday, at around 9pm.

The man was riding his 125cc motorbike heading towards Ripon and the Ford towards the A1M junction 50 when the crash happened, just north of Melmerby Green Lane.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to James Cook Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the van, a man from the north east, was uninjured.

A 22-year-old motorcyclist from Ripon has been seriously injured in a collision with a white van on the A61 near Melmerby.

The road remained closed for several hours while police investigated.

North Yorkshire Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to help with the investigation. Call 101 with any information.

There was an HGV travelling along the A61 towards the A1M at the time that was not directly involved in the collision, but it is believed that the driver may have witnessed it.
