The pair, who were travelling in a Transit van, entered the 'swift-flowing' ford on Firs Avenue in Ripon this morning.

However, the passing point had become swollen with flood water from the nearby River Skell.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and rescued one person from the van at around 10am.

They were then working to free a second person from the vehicle.
