Property of elderly man burgled in Wetherby

Detectives are looking for a man after the house of an elderly resident in Wetherby was burgled last Monday (February 15).

The incident happened between 4.30pm and 5.20pm at an address on Harewood Road, where the occupant of the property, a 79-year-old man was working in his back garden.

The victim was approached by an unknown male who began speaking at length to him about re-surfacing his driveway.

Towards the end of the conversation, the victim noticed a second male he had not seen earlier at the front of the property.

The suspects left the property, and a short time later the victim entered his house to find that items of property and an amount of cash had been stolen.

Police have now released an Efit of a man they want to trace in connection with the burglary.

Suspect 1 is described as a white male around 30 years old, 5’ 11" tall and of skinny build - he was wearing a blue baseball cap, dark coloured jacket, dirty grey trousers and dark shoes.

Suspect 2 is described as a white male around 18 years old with a fresh complexion, 5’10" tall and of slim build - he was wearing red coloured training shoes.

Detective Constable Nathan Goodwin of Leeds District CID said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last Monday afternoon and may have seen people matching the suspects descriptions to come forward.

"Equally, if anyone has any information about the incident, or can identify the man in the Efit, I would ask they contact the police. Enquiries are ongoing."
