A group of travellers who have set up camp at the Victoria Grove car park will be serviced with a notice to vacate today (Thursday).

Concerns were raised by members of the public after numerous caravans and transit vans were seen occupying the car park on Tuesday night and throughout Wednesday.

Coun Mike Chambers, Harrogate Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Safer Communities confirmed the council were aware of the unauthorised vehicles at the car park.

He said: “We are aware that a number of caravans and associated towing vehicles have set up camp at the Victoria Grove car park in Ripon without permission.

“An officer from Harrogate Borough Council will be visiting the location to serve them with a notice to vacate, which will require the occupiers to leave the car park by 5pm today (Thursday, September 30).

“Should the occupiers fail to vacate the location we will start formal proceedings to regain possession of our land.”

Despite the impending notice to vacate, Ripon residents have raised concerns that the travellers will be taking up parking spaces on Market Day.
