How is council tax set?

Council tax is split between the county council, the Police and Crime Commissioner, the borough council, and town or parish councils.

Each authority's annual budget sets out how much they need from every household for the services it provides.

The borough council is responsible for collecting council tax.

Depending on their value, households fall into one of eight different tax bands, A-H. Band D is taken as the average, with Band A homes paying the least and Band H homes the most.
