Popular Yorkshire beer bar announces exciting plans for Harrogate

The independently run craft beer bar has submitted a planning a planning application to Harrogate Borough Council for a vacant site on Cheltenham Parade.

After opening five successful venues in Leeds, and one in Otley, the bar is hoping for similar fortunes should their plans for the former ‘It’s Incredible’ site be approved.

John Gyngell, director of North Bar, has been trying to find the best site in Harrogate for five years and believes it will fit in well with the other independent cafes and restaurants in the town centre.

He said: “It is a lovely site, I am pleased we found it and touch wood if planning permission goes through we will get to Harrogate.

“We have been waiting for the right place and the right time, it seems like the independent food and drink market has been growing, and with the new cinema complex coming next year the time is right.

“I think we will fit in more with the local independents than the big national chains, we are small chain and have expanded out of Leeds.

“There is just the two of us, we aren’t driven by hundreds of shareholders, we don’t have holiday homes in Barbados.”

North Bar has built a reputation for having a specialist knowledge in cask beers but the bar will also serve a range of spirits, soft drinks and pastries during the day.

No other food is proposed to be offered during the day but they have proposed to open earlier to serve their ‘bespoke blend of coffee beans’.

A new bar on the ground floor has been proposed with additional first floor customer area, primarily used for private hire but also providing additional customer seating.

There has also been a small group of seating along the Mount Parade elevation which would operate until 9pm.

Mr Gyngell said he hoped the bar would fit in ‘seamlessly’ with the local community and they also hoped to get involved with the independent scene ‘as much as possible’.

The application could be decided before August with a standard consultation date set for June 8 and a target determination date set for July 24.
