The Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space organises Keep Space for Peace Week each year as an international week of protest to defund space forces and stop to the militarization of space.

All over the world, groups of people who are concerned about the increasing threat to peace and the environment from the militarisation of space, take action to highlight the issues.

Menwith Hill is owned by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), but made available to the US Department of Defense (DoD) under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement 1951 and other, undisclosed agreements between the US and British governments.

Campaign groups describe Menwith Hill, which is located eight miles west of Harrogate near Blubberhouses, as an intelligence gathering base run by the US National Security Agency, which is used for monitoring, surveillance, drone operations and as part of the Missile ‘Defence’ system.

One of the speakers, Will Griffin of Global Network, recently made a film about the role of Menwith Hill Base and will be showing extracts from the film.

There will also be a screening of a short film about Fylingdales, made by YCND.

Further information about the event and instructions on how to register are available on the website www.themhac.uk and on www.yorkshirecnd.org.uk
