New Vice Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire

From January 14, the role will be carried out by Mr Peter Scrope DL.

Peter is a successful businessman operating at board level in the telecoms industry.

He is a former Army officer who participates in the voluntary and charity sector. Peter, his wife Penny and their five children live in Great Ayton, the village where Captain Cook went to school.

The Lieutenancy of North Yorkshire is the largest by area in the country and the Vice Lord Lieutenant will assume the duties of the Lord Lieutenant, Barry Dodd CBE, when he is out of the area or unavailable.

These duties include Royal visits, chairing the Judicial Panel, medal and award presentations and many other responsibilities.

The Vice Lord Lieutenant is assisted by 51 Deputy Lieutenants.

The outgoing Vice Lord Lieutenant, Brigadier Johnny Wardle CBE, will take up the post of President of the Army Benevolent Fund in the region.

Peter Scrope said: “It is a huge privilege to be appointed Vice Lord Lieutenant.

“The Lieutenancy has an important role in representing the monarchy in North Yorkshire.

“I am greatly looking forward to assisting Barry as we meet so many wonderful individuals, organisations and companies throughout North Yorkshire and Teesside.”
