MP backs company’s 
healthy eating scheme

Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has called for all primary schools in the area to combat childhood obesity by joining a healthy-eating programme devised by a local consultancy.

His appeal came at an event in the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Harrogate-based Purely Nutrition which delivers the PhunkyFoods programme in more than 1,500 UK primary schools.

“I would encourage all schools in my constituency to sign up to the PhunkyFoods programme,” said Mr Jones.

The programme offers a fun way for teachers to deliver innovative healthy eating and physical activity lessons to children, some of whom are developing obesity-caused diabetes as young as seven, according to new NHS figures.

Independent research suggests the programme is having a positive impact on the behaviour of children involved.
