North Yorkshire County Council said the Dallamires Crescent site is one of five in the region which will restart with strict safety measures on Tuesday, May 19.

It means Harrogate's Wetherby Road recycling centre will be the only one in the county to stay shut.

Officials say they can not reopen the site because of traffic problems.

Coun Andrew Lee, Executive Member for Waste Management at the council, said: “It is great to see all but one of the sites reopening, and I would like to thank the North Yorkshire residents for their understanding, and for playing their part by continuing to recycle and dispose of their waste responsibly and only visiting the sites when they can’t store their waste at home.

"All the sites that have reopened so far have been managed well by our contractor Yorwaste with new controls to keep the public and staff safe."

What are the strict safety measures being enforced?

Visitors are advised to wear gloves on site and are reminded to wash their hands before and after visiting.

Those who should not visit are the extremely vulnerable, people with coronavirus symptoms and those in a 14-day household isolation.

Only one person is allowed out of their vehicle once on-site.

And social distancing must be observed, with people being told to stay at least two metres apart at all times.

There will be a cut-off point for the queues, so if they become too long people will need to leave and come back later.

Staff will be unable to help with the disposal of waste.

People will be able to separate waste into different skips. The usual rules will apply for chargeable waste, with payment by card only being accepted.

Commercial waste will not be accepted and - as normal - commercial vehicles that are registered with the council will be permitted on site.

Trailers will also not be allowed until further notice.

The other recycling centres to reopen tomorrow include:

- Malton, Pasture Lane, Malton

- Northallerton, Yafforth Road, Northallerton

- Tadcaster, Station Road Industrial Estate, Tadcaster

- Wombleton, Cockerhill Lane, Wombleton
