The Penny Pot Lane site is one of 10 in North Yorkshire which are being brought back into use on a "phased basis", county council chief executive Richard Flinton said.

Harrogate's Wetherby Road recycling centre - as well as Ripon's Dallamires Lane site - will remain closed.

Mr Flinton made the announcement today on a webcast with North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan.

He said: "We are only opening sites where we can cope with the anticipated demand and the impact on the highways.”

The 10 sites chosen to reopen are the larger centres where social distancing can be maintained.
