New operator for antiques town market

Little Bird Markets is to take over the operation of Wetherby’s antiques market from the town council.

The new regime starts from next month and the new custodians say it will result in expansion for the fair, which has been running in the Town Hall for over 40 years.

“It’s an absolute privilege to look after the antiques market in Wetherby,” said Little Bird Director Jackie Crozier

“I always love the thrill of finding new treasures as well as letting go of my own so new owners can appreciate them.”

She added: “I want to expand the antique market to cover vintage, salvage, and reclaimed items to give a broader appeal to customers.

“My taste changes often so the flea market is the perfect place to source new décor and home accessories with character.”

“Antique and Flea Markets are an affordable way for those without a bricks and mortar shop to connect with new customers so are vital in supporting the local self-employed economy.

“And as the old saying goes “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, and we hope customers will find their own treasure at the weekly market.”

Little Bird Artisan Markets was recently announced as the new replacement for the monthly Farmers’ Market for Wetherby.

Coun Jo Maltby from Wetherby Council said: “As Chair of the Council’s Markets Committee I’m delighted that the antiques fair is going to be in safe hands.

“It’s ripe for development and as we re-emerge from covid restrictions, it seems like the perfect time and opportunity for Little Bird Made to step in and take over running of the event.

“We wish Jackie and her team all the very best and look forward to seeing this town institution becoming a beacon in the town’s recovery from the pandemic.”

Jackie Crozier added: “The aim is to provide a platform for our growing community of skilled small business owners and hobbyists we have here in Wetherby and surrounding villages.

“As we grow, we will have guest stalls each week as well as our regulars who I am very much looking forward to working with.”
