Have your say on town plans call

Wetherby residents will be able to have their say on the future development of the area at the end of the month.

On January 30, Referendum Day, people will be able to cast their vote on whether the Wetherby Neighbourhood Plan should be adopted as a formal planning document for the area.

Coun Alan Lamb (Conservative, Wetherby ward), said: “We would urge all residents of Wetherby to vote in the referendum on adoption of the Wetherby Neighbourhood Plan – this is the opportunity to make your views known on how development is to be managed.

“We have some big projects in the pipeline and the adoption of the Neighbourhood Plan will assist in making them happen in a controlled fashion.”

Neighbourhood plans offer communities the chance to influence how their areas develop in key issues such as housing.

If adopted, the council would have to take into account the details contained in the plan when considering future development in the area.

Coun Norma Harrington, (Conservative, Wetherby ward) said: “I have said before that high numbers of houses put unacceptable strains on local facilities and services whilst destroying our green belt and woodlands. The adoption of the Plan would give residents a voice on how we can grow in a controlled manner.”
