Controversial plans for 120 homes in Knaresborough set for final green light

The proposals for 120 homes near Boroughbridge Road are from property developers Galliford Try Partnerships Yorkshire and were last year granted outline planning permission.

Now, Harrogate Borough Council's planning committee has said construction should go ahead if concerns from residents over the layout of footpaths and a lack of trees can be addressed.

Objecting to the proposals, Scriven Parish Council said Knaresborough is already under "tremendous pressure" from the 1,000-plus homes that have been given the go-ahead in the last two years.

"Once this is completed, it will result in saturation for Knaresborough town and its facilities", the parish council said.

"Currently, there appears to be no provision for additional educational facilities or doctors surgeries to cater for this major influx of population".

Miranda Armitage, chair of the parish council, also told the committee the proposed access to the development is "downright dangerous" and asked for a mini-roundabout to be included in the plans.

The application - which had been scaled back from 146 to 120 homes - will be approved by the borough council's chief planner if highways, footpath and landscaping plans can be finalised.

The homes will be a mix of 2,3 and 4-bedrooms.

An agent for the developers told the committee: “It is a key scheme for us, representing an investment of £25million.

"Despite an unprecedented economic backdrop we see this as a significant scheme".
