Police called after travellers move onto Oatlands recreation ground

An eviction notice has been served to a group of travellers who have moved onto Oatlands recreation ground.

North Yorkshire Police say they have received five complaints from the public about anti-social behaviour at Oatlands field in recent days.

Harrogate Borough Council served an eviction notice on Tuesday August 26.

A spokesperson said: “The occupiers did not vacate the land as directed by the Notice to Vacate served on them on 26th August despite their assurance that they would leave voluntarily they remain in situ. The council has filed a claim for possession at court for a hearing on Monday September 1, the eviction will take place on Monday unless the Defendants defend the claim.

“They may of course vacate the land prior to this time so landowners are urged to make sure their land is secure.”
