Plenty of activities on offer for kids during the summer holidays
The Royal Armouries in Leeds are hosting a flurry of activities during the summer holidays includingÂ combat demonstrations, dramatic performances and have-a-go workshops for all ages to enjoy.
Every week of the holidays there will be something on offer.
The fun workshops are suitable for youngsters aged five to 11, with parental supervision. Each workshop is Â£3.50 per child; visitors can book at the museum on the day.
July 30-August 3 - Elizabethan sword school
Learn the art of fencing from a true Elizabethan gentleman sword-master and his less genteel assistant, as they instruct you in the basics of the 16th-century rapier. They will teach you everything you need to know to survive the perils of the Elizabethan court.
August 6-10 - Squire school
Train as a squire in Sir William’s household. From swordplay to stable management and serving at table, find out if your little squire has got all it takes to become the perfect knight.
August 13-17 - Self-defence with Sherlock
Learn the martial art of Bartitsu from the esteemed consulting detective himself. Holmes and his partner Watson will teach you the techniques and skills that saved his life from the perils of his nemesis, the dastardly Moriarty.
August 20-24 - Swordplay with style
Meet the master and his assistant as they prepare you for the pleasurably poisonous practice of 18th-century point work.
Whether it is with point or pistol, our pompous principal will teach you everything you need to know to not only survive but to thrive in this thrilling game.
August 28-31 - Samurai SchoolLearn about the Bushido Code, the traditional way of the Samurai. The sensei and his student will teach you the honour code and martial traditions used by the famous Japanese warrior class.
Falconry FridaysThere will also be fantastic flying displays every Friday and a chance to see these magnificent birds up close. Â£3.50 per person / family tickets Â£12 / tickets available at the museum.
Mark Jackson, Events and Informal Learning Manager, said: “There is certainly something to keep all the family entertained this summer holidays.
"Our workshops will give kids a chance to get hands-on and learn about the development of arms and armour through a variety of historic periods and cultures.
"There will also be opportunities to see the amazing SMJ Falconry in our outdoor arena and to meet the museum’s craftspeople, including an armourer, leatherworker, costumier and blacksmith.”
