PHOTOS: 2,500 runners brave the elements for Harewood House events

The annual Harewood House Half Marathon and inaugural 10K were held to raise money for the British Heart Foundation to fund research into coronary heart disease, which is the UK’s single biggest killer.

Both races started and finished in front of the grand stately home, near Leeds.

David Driver from Burley in Wharfedale won the half marathon event, while Callum Elson from Roundhay, Leeds, claimed victory in the 10k.

BHF running event product manager Helen Wright said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the inclement weather conditions, everyone who supported our runners and all of our volunteers. Coronary heart disease is not beaten yet – it remains the single biggest killer in the UK and it’s because of your support that we are able to continue our fight to find a cure.”

The Harewood House events have already raised £86,000 for the charity. Participants are now being urged to return their sponsorship for yesterday’s event online or by setting up a JustGiving page.
