Young drummer passes exam with top marks

Schoolgirl Diya Patel is beating her way to success in music exams.

The Year 10 King James’s School pupil has achieved an astounding 100 per cent in her grade 6 Trinity College Drum Exam.

“Diya, who started learning drums at primary school under the watchful eye of Andy Whitaker, has progressed to become a very competent and talented young lady,” said music teacher Katie Bell.

“It takes diligence and perseverance to become this good at such a young age,” added the Manager of The Bell School of Music who are the service providers at KJS.

“Andy and I saw something special in Diya right from the start.

“She looked like a rock star even at the tender age of seven and made her presence known back then in the junior band.

“Music is a powerful thing, and however awful the last year has been for so many of us, to see that not only Diya, but many pupils have shown how determined they are to achieve great things throughout lockdown.”

Katie added: “Surveys show that young people in particular have turned to music as an escape over the recent months and I hope that this will encourage schools to support and invest in a subject that often gets pushed to the wayside.

“We look forward to seeing how Diya chooses to use her talent in the future!”
