Yarndale supports hospice

Skipton yarn festival Yarndale has launched its Worldwide Creative Project 2020 to support Martin House Hospice Care for Children and Young People.

The Yarndale team is asking knitters and crocheters to create colourful dishcloths which will go on display at the event in September. They will then be sold to raise money for the hospice.

Yarndale is one of Yorkshire’s biggest yarn festivals, with stalls from hundreds of independent exhibitors, and attracts thousands of visitors from across the UK and as far away as New Zealand and Australia. Every year Yarndale provides a creative challenge to support its chosen charity.

Since 2015 Yarndale, with the generous help of thousands of talented crafters from around the world has raised over £10,000.

Chris Verney, regional fundraiser for Martin House, said: “We’re thrilled Yarndale has chosen to support us at this year’s event, and we can’t wait to see the colourful and creative designs people come up with!”

Martin House cares for more than 400 babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions from across West, North and East Yorkshire every year, along with around 150 bereaved families.

It is currently facing a massive funding shortfall due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen it forced to cancel fundraising events and close its shops as the country has gone into lockdown.

Carole Rennison, from Yarndale, said: We’re really excited to launch our creative project as part of this year’s event.”

She added: “In these challenging times of physical distancing, it’s a great opportunity for people to learn a new hobby, or share an existing love of crafting with the whole family and get everyone involved.

“They can also share their creations and stay connected with a large community of fellow crafters, while making a very real difference to one of our best-loved local charities.

“They are the perfect project for teaching someone to knit or crochet as simple cost-effective patterns are available for beginners as well as more complex ones for advanced designs.”

Yarndale takes place at Skipton Auction Mart on September 26th and 27th.
