Why providing grief support to people in Harrogate district is so important - Saint Michael's Hospice Leap Year Appeal

This February, the Harrogate Advertiser Leap Year Appeal with Saint Michael’s Hospice is aiming to raise £15,500 to provide an extra day of care and support to people living with terminal illness and bereavement across the Harrogate district.

Saint Michael’s provides bereavement support for adults and children across the Harrogate District via its Just ‘B’ service. The Just ‘B’ children’s service is based at Burton House, Hookstone Oval, in Harrogate. The service is mainly delivered by a dedicated team of bereavement support volunteers, alongside a small team of staff.

Jenna Collins, Children and Young People’s Services Manager with Just ‘B’, supports children and young people who are bereaved and feels that it is important young people receive support.

“We support them in learning to live with their grief, and that it’s OK not to feel OK.

“Children and young people open up their life, thoughts and feelings to us, as they feel safe in sharing their thoughts and feelings in a safe space.
