Veterans hit the gym to boost Poppy Appeal by over £3K

Wetherby Poppy Appeal has been closed this week in preparation for Coronavirus lockdown on Thursday but a leading campaigner has boosted funds by hitting the gym.

Royal British Legion Wetherby and District Branch Chairman Major (retired) Tom Smith MBE and friend Alan Hunt completed a 12-hour gym session at Train FX Gym in Thorp Arch.

“The Poppy Appeal will be very restricted this year due to Covid-19 restrictions,” explained Tom.

“So we are trying different ways of raising funds for our Armed Service personnel and veterans.”

Tom and Alan will trained from 7am to 7pm last Sunday with only 10 minutes in every hour for food and hydration.

“It was a long, hard day but enjoyable and finished with just a few aches and pains,” said Tom.

“We have kept the JustGiving page open until after the 11th as we have had to suspend the Wetherby Poppy Appeal due to Thursday’s lockdown. Hopefully people can still donate this way.”

The pair have already raised over £3,165. To donate Visit: https://www.justgiving.com/team/TeamTrainFX.
