True community Knaresborough pub opens up again under new ownership

One of Knaresborough’s most historic pubs has reopened after a £250,000 refurbishment and a change of ownership.

Located in a Grade II listed building, Mother Shipton Inn dates to the 17th century and has stood beside the Low Bridge for hundreds of years

Originally built as a gatehouse, in the 18th century it became an inn with a name change which pays tribute to the legendary Yorkshire prophetess Ursula Sontheil, otherwise known as Mother Shipton.

After a period of upheaval, in July it closed temporarily again for a refurbishment under owners Admiral Taverns.

Now it has reopened, to the delight of its new General Manager Matthew Chapman, who previously managed The Stansfield Arms in Apperley Bridge.

“I’m absolutely thrilled with how the refurbishment came along,” said Matthew.

"Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure that the Mother Shipton Inn feels fresh and exciting, while still retaining the warmth and character that makes this place so special for the community.

"I have loved every minute of my time at the Mother Shipton Inn so far and I would like to thank everyone, from my family and friends, our customers and of course the team at Admiral Taverns, for all their ongoing support. I look forward to everything the future holds for this fantastic community pub.
