Local businessman and civic figure Philip Allot, who served on the Knaresborough Town Council alongside Mrs Ferguson said: “Eileen was a stalwart of the local community who gave her time for free.

"She was a passionate town advocate and supporter of all things Knaresborough.

"For many years she lived on Stockwell Drive, Knaresborough and always had people coming to see her with local problems, which she worked hard to resolve for them.

"She had a great sense of humour, and her smile and warmth brightened up many a cold civic Sunday morning.”
