Top divers head to Harrogate for prestigious Swim England North East Regional Diving Championships

The Swim England North East Regional Diving Championships, known as the Syd Boothroyd Diving Grand Prix, return this weekend, with the opening leg taking place in Harrogate.

The first leg of the championships will be held at the Harrogate Hydro on Sunday, January 18, before the competition moves to Leeds on Sunday, January 25 at the John Charles Centre for Sport.

Across the two weekends, more than one hundred divers from across the North East will compete in 44 events, spanning five age groups and three competition levels.

The championships showcase the depth of diving talent across the region, from emerging age group athletes to experienced elite competitors.

For many divers, the Syd Boothroyd Championships represent an important step on the competitive pathway.

Athletes will be aiming to achieve the qualifying scores required for the National Age Group and Junior Elite National Championships later in the year, making these events particularly significant.

The Harrogate Hydro holds a special place in British diving.

It is the pool where Jack Laugher, one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympic divers, began his diving career, making it a fitting venue for the championships.

Becky Simmonds, Competition Organiser, said: “The Syd Boothroyd Championships are a major organisational effort and a real showcase of the depth of diving talent across the North East.

"Bringing so many athletes, volunteers and officials together across two venues takes careful planning, and it creates a high-quality competitive environment where divers can perform at their best and work towards qualifying scores.”

Spectators, parents and supporters can follow results throughout the day via Dive Recorder, with live scoring available during competition.

With qualification on the line and a full programme of events, the Harrogate leg of the Syd Boothroyd Championships promises a full day of high-quality competition, teamwork and community spirit, celebrating the strength of regional diving.
