Tapestry reflects school’s lockdown life and goes on show

Staff and pupils at Wetherby’s St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School unveiled their lockdown tapestry.

The school sent out a challenge to its community in June to create a square that represented lockdown for them and their families.

“A huge array of textiles and techniques were used to create these mini masterpieces,” said a spokesman.

“The squares are beautiful and during the summer, over 100 squares were sewn together around a centre piece celebrating the school and its community.

“The final tapestry is bright, full of love, energy and hope, showing how the school came together and stayed connected throughout lockdown.”

The tapestry is now on display in school.

And the Friends of St Joseph’s are fundraising for the school by selling tea towels and tote bags printed with an image of the tapestry, enabling everyone to own their own piece of history.

The tapestry project was coordinated by Zoe Phillips, sewn together by Clair Cook, with centre piece by Bryony Robinson.
