Nidderdale Community Welcome (NCW) announced last April that it had found a home to resettle a family from the war-torn middle eastern country after agreeing rental of a three-bedroomed property and this week said a date had been set to welcome the family.

“I would like to thank all those who have supported us over the past couple of years with either financial or material donations,” said a spokesman for the group.

“Despite the numerous set-backs due to Covid lockdowns and other unforeseen delays, we are delighted that we will be welcoming a family to Nidderdale in late July.

“We are sure that with the support of the whole community, the family will quickly feel at home and will be able to join in with the life of the Dale.”

The group announced in April that it would stick with its original plan to home a Syrian family.

“Whilst we have every sympathy with those from other countries displaced by war - Afghanistan and Ukraine - who we hold in our thoughts and prayers, we believe the support we can offer best suits a vulnerable family from Syria,” added the spokesman

NCW, working in conjunction with Ripon and Harrogate groups, will be helping the family to learn English to become self-sufficient.

Anyone who would like to be part of the team working with the family to help them to settle in the area, should make contact with NCW through its website at: nc-welcome.org.
