Standards volunteers being urged to step up

People are being asked to step forward to help steer standards at Wetherby HM Young Offender Institution.

The secure facility for boys and young men aged 15-18, is calling for people to join the Board of Independent Monitors.

Catherine Porter, Chairman of IMB Wetherby YOI, said: “We are looking for people who are over 18, enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement.”

“Could you be the person we are looking for join to the Board of Independent Monitors at Wetherby HM Young Offender Institution to help to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained?”

She explained: “Inside every prison, there is an IMB, a group of ordinary members of the public, who are independent, unpaid and complete an average of 2-3 visits per month,

“You do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. Expenses are covered.”
